To see “deBelle” printed on the front of a book seemed vindication for all the childhood teasing. With storytelling written in the finest Southern tradition from the soap operas of Chandler Street in the quaint town of Gainesville, Georgia, to a country store on the Alabama state line, Olivia deBelle Byrd delves with wit and amusement into the world of the Deep South with all its unique idiosyncrasies and colloquialisms.

The View:

The book was a delight to read. I enjoyed it so much that I found myself laughing out loud more than once. Olivia has narrated real life instances with such a sense of humor that I had to put down the book and run looking for my (book-deprived) husband to tell him some of them.

The book is drafted in the form of short stories so it is a very quick and light read. Each story is interesting and not to mention “hilarious”. The Dairy Queen instance where her son believes the “false advertising” or how she treats her very expensive Chanel much to her husband’s shock really gave me some brilliant ideas of my own. Just when you assume that every anecdote is going to get you laughing, she manages to instigate some real life lessons. Being a new mom; I really enjoyed all of the mommy’ing lessons that she throws in with the same light humor.

I had the best facial and massage of my life, went shopping, came back and read this book lying on my bed while my husband took the job of babysitting. Absolute Bliss! Out of my entire TBR no other book could have got me in the peaceful mood that this one managed too. Rated a 4 on 5.

Before I leave, let me ask you just one question: “Which do you want with your salad? Brawny or Bounty?” I know… You have to read it!!!!!!
