Theme Thursdays [Building] – 24Mar11

Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:

  • A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
  • Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
  • Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
  • It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”

This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.

This week’s theme is – BUILDING

My THURSDAY THEME for BUILDING

The science building was intimidating enough – three stories of glass-fronted gray brick with greenhouses and enormous labs and corridors ripe with unidentifiable scents of earth and chemicals.

Taken from “Running from Secrets” by “Stephanie Void”

GIVE ME YOUR THEME FOR THE NEXT WEEK!!

I think I am making these theme’s challenging but all of you are making it look like a piece of cake. I so love the variety you all bring to this meme. So I want the next theme (a definitely tough one) to come from one of you… Please leave the theme in the comment and a random theme will be selected. Happy brainstorming!!

  7. Hmm, I’m fairly new to this so I don’t know what you’ve done before I came along, but how about hair, makeup, something beauty related etc? That was the first thing that came to mind.

    My theme post is HERE

  8. Very visual sentence. I loved the picture of the greenhouses I got.

    Here’s mine: http://myreadersblock.blogspot.com/2011/03/theme-thursday-building.html

Theme suggestions: Atmosphere (something that suggests “spooky” or “tense” or “romantic”…etc.) OR how about Book (that’s kind of cool–find somewhere in your book that mentions a book)

  11. I love that cover, the book sounds good all around 🙂

Mine is from Silent in the Grave this week.

  12. Descriptive scenes aren’t always evocative for me, but this one definitely puts my right back into the science building at my college.

    Here’s mine:
