Theme Thursdays [School] – 1Sept11

Theme Thursdays

Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:

  • A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
  • Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
  • Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
  • It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”

This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.

Thanks all for the brilliant suggestions. Please do keep pouring them in as and when you want to. Cristina from The Alaskan Book Cafe suggested schools since all the kids are going back to school now and I thought that would be a cool theme .. so this week’s theme is

SCHOOL (Anything related to school – teachers, students, children, books, desks, boards, pens etc )

I just turned lucky this week I think and managed to find my post real quick. My THURSDAY THEME for SCHOOL is here. I got two sentences again this time.

A muscle in Trace’s jaw worked. “That’s what the nurse at the school said, and she also said he was running a fever.

“I’ll have his teacher email you, and tell Eli that we’re all thinking of him.”

Taken from page 59 and page 72 of “Born to Die” By Lisa Jackson

My heart kind of stopped there with the snippets and then the title of the book. I will have to check out this book. I do hope you are enjoying it.

  2. At first I was worried about this theme, lol, but after just a few moments I remembered a section from a book I just reviewed that I thought was perfect! Great theme, and great choice for your snippets as well!

  5. I thought what will I post today, and then I remembered a book…

  6. Since I hadn’t started reading mine, I began searching from the beginning…and thought: I’ll never find a reference to “school,” since it’s a suspense thriller. But then I found it on p. 9!

  8. Nice one – you managed to get school related words in there twice! I’ve done the same but one word is repeated… is that cheating?! ๐Ÿ˜‰
